Goa to Have Shack Policy Soon

Goa's 105 Km coastline attracts 2.6 Million Tourists every year and some half a million are from Russia, Germany, UK and other nationalities. Come winters the tourists throng to the famous beaches of Goa of North and South. The beaches are adorned with the 300 odd shacks which offer services of restaurants and for hiring water sports equipments and gears. The ever increasing popularity of the Goan beaches have caused for the chaotic scenes in the winters and the revelers scamper for spaces to change and ease off.

With the new Shack Policy the State Government and Goa Tourism would put in practical facilities for tourists on the beaches. Tourism Minister Dileep Parulekar informed that the tourists need to change clothes when they go for a swim, we are trying to bring in changing rooms for them on the beaches with freshwater showers where those who have been for a swim can have a bath and get refreshed. Also a 50-metre watch tower on the popular and populous Baga beach in north Goa, would be erected so that security personnel can help ward off trouble.

As per the Chief Minister of Goa Manohar Parrikar, "Water sports operators offer activities like jet-ski rides, dolphin spotting, para-sailing, banana boat capers, with boats often encroaching into shallow areas and causing accidents by running into unaware swimmers bobbing in the waters.“The policy will also demarcate specific areas for watersports operators, beyond which they will not be allowed to go. The areas will be marked by buoys"
